If You Care - Act

My name is Brianna Campos and I’m a 16 year old high school student from the San Francisco Bay Area. I’ve always loved baking - I enjoy making people happy with my food.

But right now we’re not happy. The recent events regarding police brutality and the black lives matter movement have highlighted to me that many people don’t have equal opportunity. How can they be happy when they are judged by how they look? I’ve watched what has been happening with our society not just with concern, but a desire to do something to help.

If there is one thing I’ve learned from my experience tutoring at the Boys and Girls Club in East Palo Alto, is that so many people just need a chance. Whether tutoring, or an opportunity to get an internship - a small investment can have a big impact.

So I decided to create the organization Baking for Justice - to take what I love to do - and do my part to help others. With the money I raise, I will donate to the Boys and Girls Club and YearUp Bay Area. I chose these organizations because I’ve seen first hand how they help make our society better. They do this by reducing the education and opportunity gaps that exist for so many - especially people of color. I believe that by investing in others, we’ll help people succeed in building better lives for themselves. Through their success we can eliminate the unfair discrimination and stereotypes that only hurts us all.

My goal is to raise $10,000 by the end of this summer. It is a big goal, but it isn’t the only one. My goal is to create happiness. I want to give you a little bit of happiness with my baking, and through your happiness raise resources and awareness to help others, and by doing that, help them build a better life for themselves, and through that help us all see each other as equals - and through all of this - maybe we can make our world just a little bit better. I hope you will join me
